Second Chance

We believe prevention is better than intervention, but for the young men and women who have already made mistakes we have an opportunity for them to succeed- the Second Chance Program. Participants in the program are at least 18 years old, and have not graduated from high school. They live with us in our apartment complex. Dallas Dream Center has partnered with the Dallas Independent School District. The school district allows students to complete their course work at their own pace, and finish with a high school diploma. Each day those in the program attend school half of the day, then for the remainder of the day they intern at Dallas Metro and are involved in every aspect. The young men and women who graduate from high school are strongly encouraged to go on to college. At Dallas Metro, we endeavor to assist them with their college funding and goals. Many have completed the program and have long term goals in a varied range of careers. Bertha Valdez is enrolled in a local community college. Jessica Bocanegra completed high school and went on to Bible school. She is now a full time staff member. Zenaida Morelos is seizing her dream of becoming a doctor in her second year at El Centro Community College.
Richie Ramos is a current enrollee in our Second Chance program. Like many of the students in this program, he has lived most of his life on his own and without boundaries and proper parental supervision. He came to us and said he knew there was no way he was going to make it without our help. We are doing our best to see that he becomes a contributing and successful member of our community. Because of the Second Chance program, these young adults are impacting their world, influencing others, and making a difference. |
